JD Salinger, my voice of reason, died 27 Jan 2010
JD gave me Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of his book, “Catcher in the Rye” which was published in 1951. I first read the book 50 years after its first publication–I was newly out of university, full of zits, repressed hormones and left-over teenage angst. Holden gave me perspective. In a one way conversation between me and the book (worn out and old) — suddenly, EVERYTHING MADE SENSE.
JD reminded me of one the lines in his seminal novel. He was the kind of author, whom I wished I knew, and that I could call him and “shoot the breeze” whenever I felt like it. Damn, it this was the case, I’m sure he’d be sick of me.
Rest in Peace, JD.
Thank you…
